Comic Review – Saga (TP Vol. 1)

I couldn’t have picked a worse comic to review for my first ever go at a proper review, for reasons you’ll see as I go through…

yet here it is, Saga written by Brian K. Vaughan and Illustrated by Fiona Staples

I’m very late to this party, for no real reason, It’s been in my amazon (saved for later) basket for quite a while now and somehow I had a little money left in my budget so picked a random book as a gift to myself for surviving the general stupidity of the world recently.

I don’t know how I originally found Saga, possibly through a related items deal thing, but otherwise, I’m largely glad I did. It’s difficult. I don’t entirely know how I feel about the book. I mean, I like the art, I like the story, I LOVE the universe that everything takes place in, but it’s missing something I can’t put my finger on.

I say that, but this is a love story of sorts set in a universe that is being torn apart by a war. There’s everything I would want from this sort of story, there’s a realistic progression of the characters, even the traditional bad guys don’t seem all that bad (They have their reasons).

So what is my issue with this?…..Nothing I guess, as I said, I like the story, I like the characters (especially The Will & Izabel) perhaps it’s just because it’s so different to everything I’ve read recently.

I think it might be because it’s a new series (even though…..you know what I mean right???) I’m in to it for the epic story, and it is exactly that, but at the same time it’s the smallest scale you could possibly imagine, It’s a story about a couple and their newborn child,

I hope that I’ll review something else soon, there’s a lot I’m looking to do in the next little while,

So until next time…..
